Educational modules providing resources and training for the care of Opioid Exposed Newborns and mothers with Opioid Use Disorders.

Presenters:

Erika Rodriguez-Muñoz completed her Master of Social Work at the University of Southern California in 2015, obtained her social work license in 2016 and is certified in Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Erika is the full-time specialty social worker with the Obstetric Drug Dependency Clinic at the Vanderbilt Center for Women’s Health.  In addition to patient care, Erika is the state of Tennessee representative for the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers. Erika is also the program manager for the Vanderbilt 2019 TIPQC Maternal bundle

Amy Coble is the State Director of Investigations, Office of Child Safety, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master of Criminal Justice from Tennessee State University.  In her role, she provides leadership, supervision, and oversight to the investigation and special investigation teams across the state of Tennessee. Ms. Coble has served in a child welfare role since 1994, serving in numerous capacities within the Department of Children’s Services.  Her career includes working the frontline with children and families, serving in various management positions at the local level, working with community partners, and leading statewide project initiatives.  Ms. Coble has a passion for ensuring the safety of Tennessee’s Children.

Amber Dillehay received her master’s degree in social work from University of Tennessee in 2005 and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2011.   She has been working in Women’s Health at Vanderbilt Medical Center since 2008 and received the Carolyn Edwards Social Worker of the Year award in 2018.  In addition to providing care to women with substance use disorder, specific area of interest is maternal mental health/perinatal mood disorders. Amber is honored to be involved in the TIPQC project.

Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply strategies and be aware of more resources available using social services to work with pregnant women with Opioid Use Disorders using social services as well as Opioid Exposed Newborns.
  2. Know the basic duties of an outpatient social worker; provide trauma informed care approaches; and understand what teams can accomplish without a dedicated social worker.
  3. Understand the role of DCS and when reporting is legally required.
  4. Learn how social workers can support treating the mother and infant as a dyad and facilitate understanding and communication between the pregnant woman and her health care provider.
  5. Know the components of Psychosocial Assessment and explore key areas with mothers.
  6. Execute needed Interventions for moms and babies.
  7. Identify helpful therapeutic approaches to use with patients.
  8. Understand common barriers and problems which social workers encounter with OUD mothers.

TIPQC OUD OEN Social Services Video

 

The TIPQC “Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Opioid Exposed Newborn (OEN)” educational modules are designed to provide additional resources to care partners in caring for the OUD and OEN patients. 

The modules consist of the video and post-test.  To obtain CME credit for your participation, you must complete each step and pass the post-test with a score of at least 80%.
