The Vanderbilt Tourette Syndrome Working Group Journal Club is a monthly conference during which health practitioners from multiple disciplines review and discuss a peer-reviewed publication addressing Tourette syndrome and its comorbidities. The group convenes once monthly. At the beginning of the journal club, a designated presenter summarizes the article background, study methods, results, and conclusions. During the presentation and afterwards, attendees will discuss strengths and weaknesses of the article, interpretation of the findings and results within the context of routine clinical practice, and opportunities for optimization of current practice and research endeavors. At the conclusion of the session, individual providers will be asked to share challenging cases relevant to the journal article topic.


ACCME Objectives
  1. Describe and discuss how to interact meaningfully with providers from other disciplines who participate in the care of patients with Tourette Syndrome
  2. Describe and discuss the various manifestations of Tourette Syndrome
  3. Describe and discuss the current neurobiological understanding of Tourette syndrome
  4. Describe and discuss approaches to assessing individuals with signs and symptoms of Tourette Syndrome following current practice guidelines
  5. Describe and discuss strategies for managing patients diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome following current practice guidelines when indicated

APA Objectives
  1. discuss the difference between loneliness and social isolation.
  2. describe the broad health impacts of loneliness and social isolation.
  3. discuss potential differences in social decision-making evident in individuals with Tourette syndrome and how these differences may be linked with loneliness and social isolation in this population.
