The conference provides an opportunity to review the latest evidence about diagnosing and managing patients with presenting symptoms that may be characteristic of intellectual or development disabilities, review applicability to patients seen at MCJ Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and its clinics, and discuss strategies for integration into practice.


ACCME Objectives
  1. Discuss recent literature related to identification and management of developmental disabilities in children and adolescents
  2. Identify a strategy related to reducing care disparities for families from racial/ethnic minority groups to incorporate into practice
  3. Explain the concept of neurodiversity to patients/families and determine when it is clinically indicated to do so
  4. List clinical indicators for use of telehealth with patients/families
  5. Identify peer-reviewed, evidence based literature and resources on topics related to neurodevelopmental disabilities that can be disseminated among colleagues and patients/families appropriately.

APA Objectives
  1. 1. Explain the core principles of the Constructional Approach and how it differs from traditional pathological models in understanding and supporting mental health.
  2. 2. Describe the process and logic of nonlinear contingency analysis, including how it helps identify functional, teachable repertoires that can replace problematic patterns of behavior.
  3. 3. Explain how the principles demonstrated in the case examples can be applied to guide assessment and intervention decisions within participants’ own practice settings.
