AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (4.00 hours), ABA MOCA Part 2 (4.00 hours), ABA MOCA Patient Safety (4.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (4.00 hours)

Point of Care Ultrasound encompasses a series of ultrasound examinations including transthoracic echocardiography and intravascular volume assessment, as well as lung, abdominal, and peripheral vascular ultrasound. Collectively, POCUS is an essential tool for the anesthesiologist which allows for the acquisition of ultrasound images non-invasively (as compared to transesophageal echocardiography) in multiple settings, including perioperative emergencies, to evaluate and diagnose multiple pathologies. The Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training will have three main components: reviewing 10 hours of enduring material on POCUS, an in-person half a day session at CELA that includes both hands on workshop as well as case-based discussion, and two hour hands on follow up sessions at CELA. The objective of the course would be: 1) Demonstrate acquisition and technical skills required for basic focused cardiac, lung and abdominal ultrasound for perioperative use. 2) Diagnose common perioperative clinical problems encountered in the perioperative environment with the aid of basic focused ultrasound. 3) Gain familiarity with point-of-care ultrasound machines.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate acquisition and technical skills required for basic focused cardiac ultrasound
  2. Demonstrate acquisition and technical skills required for basic focused lung ultrasound
  3. Demonstrate acquisition and technical skills required for basic focused abdominal ultrasound

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity offers up to 4.00 CME credits, of which 4.00 credits contribute the patient safety CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in AnesthesiologyTM (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to receive CME or MOCA® credit for this course, the required evaluation component must be completed. To receive MOCA® credit, the evaluation must be completed by November 30th. Any evaluations completed after this date will award CME credit only. Evaluations can be found in your CloudCME portal under the Evaluations & Certificates tab. After you have completed the evaluation, make sure to click the "Claim MOC" box for MOCA® credit if you have previously set up your account to award MOC II. If you do not hit the "Claim MOC" box, you will not be awarded MOCA® credit for this course. The CloudCME evaluation is separate from any Anesthesiology evaluation and is required for CME, MOC II, MOCA® or MOCA® Patient Safety credit to be issued.

PLEASE NOTE: This course does not award MOC II, MOCA® or MOCA® Patient Safety credit for the month of December. MOC II, MOCA® and MOCA® Patient Safety credit can only be reported within the same year the credit was earned.
