AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (8.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (8.50 hours)

Come to Nashville where experts will give operational, financial & technical advice for advancing organ procurement and perfusion programs. New technologies are transforming organ procurement and preservation, enabling transplant teams to recover and successfully transplant more organs than ever before. These advances also introduce new challenges, requiring expertise in evolving technologies, operational workflows, financial planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Vanderbilt's Precision Management of the Deceased Organ Donor conference will equip transplant and organ procurement professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to implement these innovations at their own programs. Through expert faculty, interactive workshops, and multidisciplinary case discussions, participants will gain actionable strategies for advancing precision donor management. The conference will feature in-depth instruction on emerging procurement approaches, including normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and rapid recovery with extended ultra-oxygenated preservation (REUP), an innovative technique developed by Vanderbilt surgeons with promising outcomes published in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. Additional sessions will explore the latest advances in organ preservation, assessment, and enhancement. Designed for both thoracic and abdominal organ procurement professionals, the program emphasizes the collaboration required to maximize organ utilization. Attendees will gain practical operational, financial, and technical guidance for developing or expanding perfusion programs.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Describe emerging approaches to organ reconditioning and modification and their potential to improve organ quality and expand the donor pool.
  2. Evaluate lessons learned from the use of REUP in heart transplantation, including its evolving role, clinical applications, and implications for transplant practice.
  3. Discuss recent innovations in normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and their impact on organ recovery, preservation, and transplantation outcomes.
  4. Identify strategies for integrating novel organ procurement technologies into transplant programs and assess their impact on program operations, organ utilization, and patient care.
