This 2-day workshop will provide intensive training in clinical hypnosis to clinicians who wish to practice hypnosis with clients in a variety of contexts. We will introduce hypnosis, techniques in performing hypnosis, and then applying these techniques in specific populations such as those with anxiety, chronic pain, acute pain, and in surgical populations. After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to: 1. To be able to articulate the indications and contra-indications for the use of hypnosis in the clinical setting. 2. To be able to describe the facts about hypnosis and hypnotizability, as well as common misinformation. 3. To experience hypnotizing another person and practice different induction techniques during the workshop. 4. To be able to describe and practice deepening hypnosis with another person. 5. To demonstrate an understanding of how to formulate suggestions for clinical hypnosis and practice this with other participants 6. To be able to articulate an understanding of how to obtain the training and consultation necessary to develop competence in hypnosis. 7. To demonstrate an awareness of ethical and boundary issues in the clinical use of hypnosis by healthcare professionals


Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Articulate the indications and contra-indications for the use of hypnosis in the clinical setting.
  2. Describe the nature of hypnotizability and its relevance to clinical care.
  3. Explain the facts about hypnosis and summarize common misinformation.
  4. Describe the extent to which an individual is hypnotizable after experiencing hypnosis.
  5. Define and discuss ethical and boundary issues in the clinical use of hypnosis by healthcare professionals
  6. Hypnotize another person and practice it during the workshop.
  7. Deepen hypnosis with another person and practice it in the workshop.
  8. Explain how to continuously develop competence in hypnosis through training and consultation
