AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.00 hours)

Informal surveying of tumor board participants at Vanderbilt and elsewhere indicate that errors occur too frequently in interpretation of genetic testing results and in the subsequent treatment decisions in the absence of discussion in a tumor board forum such as this one. Clinical practice guidelines such as those published by the NCCN and others change rapidly. Research published in peer-reviewed journals is also difficult to keep up with. Many physicians are not aware of the frequency and importance of germline genetic findings in seemingly sporadic cancers, as well.

Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss:

  1. How specific genetic variants (mutations/lesions/word choice) may dysregulate normal cellular processes to cause cancer
  2. How specific genetic variants or variants along a cellular pathway in cancer can point to particular therapeutic strategies
  3. The relationships between somatic and germline genetic testing and the importance of both in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

January 1, 2020 - November 30, 2020 only:

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to [MOC point amount and credit type(s)] MOC points [and patient safety MOC credit] in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
