This course will be offered on several occasions during 2020 at various times and for various hospitals in Tennessee and Kentucky. Presentations by Vanderbilt faculty focus on the latest research about and discussion of challenging cases of newborns at time of delivery. After participating in this CME activity, clinician participants should be able to describe and discuss issues of patient safety and error reduction when caring for sick neonates, the S.T.A.B.L.E. mnemonic and the risk factors for and the recommended management of neonatal hypoglycemia, temperature instability, respiratory distress, shock and sepsis during the post-resuscitation and/or pre-transport period, and the emotional support to families of sick neonates and the evaluation of care provided by the neonatal healthcare providers pre, during and following transport.


Objectives

After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe and discuss issues of patient safety and error reduction when caring for sick neonates.
  2. Describe and discuss the S.T.A.B.L.E. mnemonic and the risk factors for and the recommended management of neonatal hypoglycemia, temperature instability, respiratory distress, shock and sepsis during the post-resuscitation and/or pre-transport period.
  3. Describe and discuss the emotional support to families of sick neonates and the evaluation of care provided by the neonatal healthcare providers pre, during and following transport.
