Educational module in which a subject matter expert discusses (1) the background and incidence of substance and particularly opioid use disorder (OUD) nationally and in Tennessee, (2) the impact of OUD on Tennessee maternal mortality, (3) potentially better practices for screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment of mothers with OUD, (4) treatment guidelines for mothers with OUD, and (4) racial disparities in substance use disorder treatment.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe and discuss the definitions of Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder
  2. Describe and discuss the national and Tennessee data on Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) and particularly mothers with OUD.
  3. Describe and discuss the impact of Opioid Use Disorder on Tennessee maternal mortality.
  4. Describe and discuss Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment for mothers with Opioid Use Disorders.
  5. Describe and discuss treatment guidelines for patients with Opioid Use Disorder and how patients can access treatment and state and community resources.
  6. Describe and discuss the racial disparities in substance use disorder treatment.
