Twice-a-week lecture series covering a broad range of topics related to burn care, burn surgery, and critical care. Topics covered include: ventilator management and ARDS, nutrition, burn resuscitation, sepsis and shock, pain/agitation/delirium, wound assessment and treatment, inhalation injury, electrical injury, and Stevens Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. This lecture series is appropriate for all healthcare professionals. Lectures are held every 4th Monday for one hour and every Tuesday and Thursday for 30 minutes.

This activity contributes to the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in AnesthesiologyTM (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements



Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss:

  1. How to diagnose the severity of burn injuries by both depth and extent.
  2. Burn pathophysiology, burn shock, and burn resuscitation.
  3. The various options for wound care and wound closure.
  4. Basic ventilator modes and when they are used in the management of burn injury patients.
  5. Strategies for diagnosing and treating ARDS.
  6. Approaches to multi-modal pain control and the implications for a burn-injury patient of using specific analgesic and sedative medications that are used in the ICU.
