The Women’s Pursuit of Wellness Retreat is a 2-day wellness program aimed at women in healthcare to improve well-being, happiness and work-life balance while reducing/managing risk for stress and preventing burnout, impairment and suicide. The overall purpose of the retreat is to gather women in healthcare in the Nashville, TN or surrounding states, from across the healthcare spectrum (MD/DO, PhD, RN/APRN, DDS, PharmD, PA) to engage in activities that maximize their well-being, joy, and work-life balance by aligning with core strengths, purpose and dreams. We utilize appreciative inquiry, positive psychology, intent to change, B-A-SMART-ER goals and other educational learning activities to engage women in self-reflection, stories of success and triumphs as women, moms, and healthcare providers. Participants can expect to gain a better understanding of their risks (personal and work related) and behaviors that promote or reduce stress, burnout and impairment. On day one of the program, women participants will engage in reflective and hands on activities to build their skill in managing stress, identifying and dealing with risk of burnout and preventing impairment. Women participants will also engage in practice and skills development of building emotional intelligence, mindfulness and the use of positive psychology. Participant who complete pre-session self-assessment will receive a wellness portfolio and gain insight from the results and their risks for burnout. During day 2 of the program, participants will share in appreciative inquiry of successes in enhancing resilience, promoting happiness, being vulnerable, and overcoming shame and guilt. They will enhance communication and negotiation skills/abilities through cases and role plays and practice activities. We will gather qualitative and quantitative feedback at the end of the program and evaluate participant’s goals. We will measure participants’ success of completing their personal wellness goals over the course of the six-month period. Overall, participants will learn to use techniques that promote wellness, joy and purpose and will discover current and new truths about themselves and how to envision defining their destiny. Participants will craft concrete goals and plan individual follow-up activities while feeling relaxed and refocused to face their careers, their personal lives and their future.
