AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (5.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (5.00 hours)

The Southeast AETC began hosting HIV Champions Academy events in 2018 with the aim of training clinicians who see a low volume of people with HIV and would like to begin treating these individuals in their health centers. With so few people pursuing a career in Infectious Diseases these days, low volume providers are the future of HIV care.  The goal of the Champions Academy program is to motivate attendees to share and apply their knowledge upon returning to their practice, where they can be on-site advocates and champions for quality HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify risk factors for HIV which indicate that a patient should be tested
  2. Discuss the history of HIV, its global impact, and the epidemiology of the virus.
  3. Describe the pretreatment screening, including patient history, physical exam, lab assessments, staging, and readiness assessment
  4. Classify the different HIV genotypes and give an overview of recommended treatment selections
  5. Discuss current recommendations for prescribing PrEP and PEP.
  6. Identify common drug-drug interactions and pharmacological considerations
  7. Illustrate the interaction between HIV and other common STIs.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
