A 2-hour overview course on opioid prescribing laws, opioid prescribing, pain treatment, recognizing and treating opioid addiction (OUD) with specific updates on use of buprenorphine for treatment of addiction and treatment of pain.

This course is available to VUMC employees only.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Describe the 3 waves of opioid overdose that underlie the current opioid crisis
  2. Explain why it is important to understand the 4 types of pain when making a pain treatment plan
  3. Discuss when opioids are indicated and when they may not be indicated for treatment of pain
  4. Describe the laws and the guidelines that govern opioid prescription in Tennessee
  5. Differentiate opioid use from opioid use disorder by applying DSM5 criteria
  6. List evidence based treatments for opioid use disorder
  7. Discuss how to use buprenorphine-naloxone in routine treatment of opioid use disorder
  8. Describe basic techniques to manage OUD and co-occurring pain
  9. List federal and state laws in TN governing the use of buprenorphine-naloxone for management of OUD

Tennessee Controlled Substances - 2023 Updates (Part 2)

This online course consists of a pre-test, two videos, a post-test (with a required pass rate of 80%), and a required event evaluation. 

To obtain credit for your participation, you must complete each step, including the required evaluation.  At that time, credit will be immediately available on your transcript and a certificate will be available to download.

This course is available to VUMC employees only.

 

To complete credit claiming after passing the post test select MyCE then Evaluations and Certificates from the upper right.  Once the evaluation is complete and submitted, credits will be available on your transcript and a certificate will be available to download.
