This longitudinal, all-virtual continuing education curriculum will provide post-graduate education and training to advanced practice nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, and other healthcare providers to deliver competent and compassionate HIV care.


Objectives
After participation in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Identify all components of the HIV cascade of care (i.e., prevention, screening, diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment, and retention)
  2. Define all components of the HIV cascade of care in the context of a professional’s practice setting
  3. Address all essential components of a sexual history in a simulated patient encounter
  4. Demonstrate patient-centered communication skills and practices in all simulated patient encounters
  5. Incorporate sexual history taking into primary care encounters in at least 80% of appropriate practice encounters
  6. Identify HIV screening and prevention services as important in the primary care setting
  7. Apply appropriate HIV screening criteria in a simulated patient scenario
  8. Describe the strengths and weaknesses of at least three effective HIV prevention strategies
  9. Utilize appropriate HIV prevention strategies in simulated patient encounters
  10. Incorporate HIV screening and prevention services in at least 80% of appropriate practice encounters
  11. Identify initial HIV assessment and treatment as important and appropriate for primary care settings
  12. Demonstrate appropriate historical, physical exam, and laboratory assessment of a person newly diagnosed with HIV in a simulated patient encounter
  13. Design an appropriate HIV treatment and opportunistic infection prevention plan using evidence-based guidelines in a simulated patient encounter
  14. Incorporate HIV assessment and treatment into professional practice at least once
  15. Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication in all curricular settings
  16. Incorporate patient-centered and culturally competent communication skills learned in curricular activities in all patient and practice communication
