The Multidisciplinary Perioperative MM&I Conference is offered quarterly on the 1st Friday of March, June, September, and December from 6:30am to 8:00am in Langford Auditorium at VUMC, and depending on circumstance, sometimes held virtually. The conference consists of presentations of cases in which outcomes were not expected and/or not desirable or presentations of relevant quality-related issues that impact providers in the perioperative spaces followed by discussion of strengths and weaknesses of the patient care provided, institutional support provided, relevant research evidence, and strategies for improvement, with an emphasis on quality improvement. The goal of the conference and associated quality improvement efforts is a system of health care delivery that is error-free. After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss individual practitioner, clinical team, and/or system factors that contribute to perioperative medical errors, and/or unit plans to support strategies to reduce perioperative medical errors.


Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to describe and discuss:

  1. Individual and system factors contributing to peri-operative medical errors.
  2. Strategies to overcome individual and system factors that contribute to peri-operative medical errors.
  3. Describe and discuss individual and unit plans to support strategies to reduce peri-operative medical errors.


Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn up to 1.50 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. PLEASE NOTE: This regularly scheduled series does not award MOC II or Continuous Certification credit for the month of December. MOC and Continuous Certification  credit can only be reported within the same year the credit was earned.
