Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Develop a differential diagnosis for common inflammatory and neoplastic cutaneous diseases, based on histologic pattern analysis.
  2. Understand the scope and limitations of histopathology of the skin.
  3. Correlate clinical and histopathological changes.
  4. Understand basic current concepts in skin disease.
  5. Be conversant with terminology of dermatology and dermatopathology.
  6. Understand the role of ancillary techniques in dermatopathology (i.e., immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), electron microscopy (EM), fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) studies, comparative genomic analysis (CGA)).
