This comprehensive course is designed for clinicians providing care to patients receiving ECMO for respiratory and/or cardiac failure. The course will combine current evidence-based practice with standard guidelines to deliver the critical aspects of ECMO management by multidisciplinary experts in the field through diverse interactive educational modalities including didactic, case-based, quiz-based, and simulation-based learning.


Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of ECMO circuit anatomy and physiology
  2. Recognize patients who may benefit from ECMO vs. patients who may be at higher risk of harm with ECMO
  3. Understand ECMO configurations and modes
  4. Diagnose and manage ECMO circuit complications that clinicians at the bedside are expected to identify and troubleshoot
  5. Understand the critical aspects of ECMO management for patients with cardiac failure
  6. Understand the critical aspects of ECMO management for patients with respiratory failure
