The Quarterly MM&I Series is designed to enhance the quality and safety of pediatric primary care by providing a structured, case-based learning forum focused on morbidity, mortality, and system-level improvement opportunities. The series fosters a culture of transparency, continuous learning, and interprofessional collaboration within the Division of General Pediatrics. Each session will feature real-world clinical cases drawn from outpatient primary care settings, emphasizing diagnostic accuracy, evidence-based management, communication, and patient safety. This educational series supports clinicians in identifying gaps in practice, examining contributing factors, and implementing improvement strategies that enhance patient outcomes across the pediatric primary care continuum.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Analyze recent pediatric primary care cases involving morbidity, mortality, or near-misses to identify contributing clinical, communication, and system factors.
  2. Apply evidence-based guidelines and best practices to improve diagnostic precision, clinical decision-making, and management in outpatient pediatrics.
  3. Recognize system-level improvement opportunities and participate in quality and safety initiatives that advance pediatric primary care delivery.
  4. Strengthen interprofessional communication and care coordination among primary care teams, subspecialists, and ancillary services.
  5. Implement practical changes in individual and clinic workflows that reduce preventable harm and enhance patient/family experience.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn up to 1.00 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

PLEASE NOTE: This regularly scheduled series does not award MOC II credit for the month of December. MOC II credit can only be reported within the same year the credit was earned.
