AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.50 hours)


To achieve competency in the recognition and management of postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine atony as detailed in the VUMC Best Practice document with emphasis on teamwork, communication, and utilization of available resources.

Objectives
After participating in this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Utilize a stage-based approach to the diagnosis and management postpartum hemorrhage in accordance with the PPH Best Practice Document
  2. Demonstrate appropriate medical knowledge regarding treatment options for PPH due to uterine atony according to L and D PPH Best Practice Document and the cognitive aid
  3. Use the PPH Cognitive AID to facilitate team communication during the management of a simulated PPH
  4. Trigger for OB ET, Trigger for OB anesthesia, OB MTP
  5. Use of declarative statements: clear statement regarding the OB emergency and its etiology during the simulation
  6. Identification of a leader for OBET: OB/nursing/OB-anesthesia leader will prioritize tasks, assign roles, distribute workload,communicate with leaders of other teams involved
  7. Appropriate use of SBAR during the transfer of information from nurse to nurse, nurse to faculty/resident, and faculty/resident to faculty/resident
  8. Appropriate use of call outs and closed loop communication by OB/anesthesia/and nursing at each stage of the PPH
