Educational modules providing skills and techniques to help calm babies and support parents caring for Opioid Exposed Newborns.


Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe and discuss the strategies and resources to support opioid exposed newborns and their parents by utilizing hospital allied health support services including Occupational Therapy, Lactation Counselors and Child Life Specialists.
  2. Identify elements of a trauma-informed approach in working with parents of newborns with in utero opioid-exposure.
  3. Describe and discuss ways to engage parents in the care of their newborn and partnership with the healthcare team.
  4. Describe and discuss strategies to keep an opioid exposed newborn calm during daily care, such as in bathing, diaper changes and swaddling.
  5. Describe and discuss reasons for preparing parents for what to expect in the prenatal period and after delivery.
