COVID-19 Education Update for Dental Health Professionals

COVID-19 Dental Education (1.00 hours), General Attendance (1.00 hours)


This is a 60 minute online activity using video to convey basic information about the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) viral pandemic as well as information for general practice. The targeted audience are all Dental Health Professionals. Topics covered include SARS-CoV Virology basics, Human Transmission and Disease, Personal Protective Equipment, Implications for the Dental Health Professionals.

The activity has received pre-approval for credit from the Tennessee Board of Dentistry, however participants seeking continuing education credit must apply to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry using the online form: PH-3867 (COVID19 Education Update for Dental Health Professionals).pdf

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is not an approved Dental Continuing Education provider and is not able to provide continuing education credit for participation.

The online course will be created in video format using information from:

Objectives
Participants will be able to apply in practice the latest information from healthcare professionals related to the following questions:

  1. 1. What should routine infection control look like today in dental offices? What will it look like when dentists do resume non-emergent care?
  2. 2. Given what we know about this virus, when do you think non-emergent dental care will resume? 2-3 weeks? 6 weeks? Longer?
  3. 3. Do our health questionnaires need to change to include questions related to COVID-19? If so, what specifically should be added?
  4. 4. Can COVID-19 virus be spread by aerosolization during dental procedures? By use of dental drills? Ultrasonic instruments during dental cleanings?
  5. 5. What is the status of development of treatments for COVID-19 at VUMC? Other research centers?
  6. 6. What is the status of development of a vaccine for COVID-19 at VUMC? Other research centers?
