The Cardiac Surgery Valve Conference is offered on the first Monday of every month from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. in 5053 Medical Center East at VUMC. Each session provides opportunities for cardiac surgeons to examine recent cases and discuss opportunities for improvement in diagnosis and management. After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss individual, practice, and system factors contributing to medical errors, complications, and sub-optimal outcomes; review current practice to identify opportunities for improvement based on individual, practice, and system factors; implement strategies to address opportunities for improvement aimed at reducing medical errors, complications, and sub-optimal outcomes


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe and discuss strategies for evaluating patients with cardiac murmurs
  2. Describe and discuss characteristics of specific valve lesions
  3. Describe and discuss indications and contra-indications for surgery
  4. Describe and discuss newer methodologies for treating complex valve disease including hybrid approaches
  5. Describe and discuss anticipated outcomes and potential complications of treatment
