AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.00 hours)

These monthly video conferences use cases to discuss approaches to manage the care of children who present with behavioral health issues and are currently in foster care. Key to the success of this collaborative is that the enrolled practices will be able to communicate with one another and learn from each other's management of children with complicated behavioral health concerns in a consultative model with the COE. Over time, enrolled practices should develop more confidence in their ability to care for these more complicated behavioral health patients and should be able to apply their new skills to their general pediatric population, as well.

Objectives

After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the effects of trauma on the developing child
  2. Identify children with psychological trauma and physical abuse in the primary care pediatric setting
  3. Apply principles of trauma-competent care to the primary care pediatric setting
  4. Increase collaboration with the Department of Children’s Services, the Center of Excellence, and other community behavioral health providers
  5. Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including understanding clinical guidelines and the eight medications primary care pediatric providers could prescribe
  6. Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including selecting medications for patients
  7. Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including initiating and tapering dosages
  8. Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including monitoring medication usage

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and TNAAP. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
