To provide education to a multi-disciplinary team from the CVICU regarding bedside open-chest procedures (BO-CP). To identify multidisciplinary roles and responsibilities in a BO-CP. To establish the standard processes and procedure(s) associate with BO-CP. To enhance multidisciplinary team dynamics and communication. To improve clinician efficiency in BO-CP emergencies. To demonstrate competency in performing various roles in a BO-CP.


ACCME Objectives
  1. After participating in this activity, 100% of participants who complete the evaluation will self-report the ability to differentiate multidisciplinary roles and participate in a high-fidelity simulation of an open chest procedure.
  2. Identify scenarios that may necessitate BO-CP.
  3. Simulate the standard process and procedure(s) associated with BO-CP.
  4. Recognize and name the procedural tools and materials used in a BO-CP.
  5. Provide return demonstration of internal defibrillation, sterile procedure, cardiac massage, and severance of sternal wires.
  6. Understand BO-CP clinician roles and responsibilities.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. After participating in this activity, 100% of participants who complete the evaluation will self-report the ability to differentiate multidisciplinary roles and participate in a high-fidelity simulation of an open chest procedure.
