On May 3 - 5, 2024, the Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) will host the 3rd Annual Junior Facutly Forum on Epilepsy. The Forum is approved for 10.75 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM. This educational experience will include six hands-on workshops focused on case-based discussion on demonstrating an understanding and implementation of new research findings and practice guidelines. Three small group discussion sessions will focus on new research findings, practice guidelines, and current controversies in therapeutic options for the treatment of epilepsy. It will offer hands-on workshops, small group discussion sessions, and two ABPN-approved Maintenance of Certification (MOC, Part II, IV) activities. The small group discussion sessions will focus on understanding new research findings and practice guidelines and how to implement them in practice. An ABPN approved Self-Assessment (MOC Part-II) exam will provide an opportunity to evaluate the understanding of new research findings and practice guidelines and is approved for 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM. Workshops will focus on case-based discussions of the implementation of guidelines in the practice setting. An ABPN approved Performance-in-Practice (MOC Part-IV) exercise will provide an opportunity to measure pre and post forum performance in implementing practice guidelines in the practice setting and is approved for 20.0 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM. All faculty participants at the instructor and assistant professor level will be expected to complete: • Immediate post-forum evaluation • ABPN approved Self-Assessment Exam • ABPN approved PIP, pre forum data collection , data review during forum, and six months post forum data collection • Long-term follow-up survey of practice patterns (1 year)


Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Describe and discuss new research findings and practice guidelines on epilepsy.
  2. Describe and discuss evaluation strategies to diagnose common seizure disorders.
  3. Describe and discuss strategies to manage patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders.
  4. Describe and discuss approaches to implement practice guidelines in local settings.
