Uveitis is a complex and heterogenous group of eye diseases that are associated with significant ocular comorbidities and visual impairment if not adequately and appropriately managed in a timely manner. The goal of the Carolyn Smith uveitis symposium is to educate ophthalmologists on the spectrum of clinical presentation to facilitate early diagnosis; to encourage multidisciplinary referral decisions based on evidence-based medicine, and to include latest therapeutic and clinical trial data to improve practice patterns and visual outcomes. After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss: 1. Differential diagnosis of patients with uveitis and determine the appropriate imaging and testing panels 2. Systematic review of systems to identify systemic association with uveitis and refer appropriately 3. Understand the risks, benefits and alternatives to local, regional and systemic treatment for uveitis


Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Describe early diagnosis of uveitis.
  2. Discuss when to apply advanced diagnostic testing.
  3. Review infectious lab testing required for uveitis.
  4. Evaluate prompt and aggressive treatment institution.
  5. Identify when and how to involve a referral team.
