AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (3.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (3.00 hours)

The Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics offers a 3-hour physician lead training (virtual or in-person) for pediatric providers to be more competent and confident in managing patients with behavioral health concerns. The curriculum will discuss the tools, strategies and resources available when managing these patients. Trainings are provided at no cost and includes topics such as toxic stress, ACEs, trauma-informed care, use of screening tools, office-based interventions, psychopharmacology, coding and workflow, improved family and physician relationships and more!

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Provide patient-centered care: Identify, respect, and care about patients' differences, values, preferences, and expressed needs; listen to, clearly inform, communicate with, and educate patients; share decision making and management; and continuously advocate disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of healthy lifestyles, including a focus on population health.
  2. Work in interdisciplinary teams: Cooperate, collaborate, communicate, and integrate care in teams to ensure that care is continuous and reliable.
  3. Employ evidence-based practice: Integrate best research with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care and participate in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.
  4. Apply quality improvement: Identify errors and hazards in care; understand and implement basic safety design principles, such as standardization and simplification; continually understand and measure quality of care in terms of structure, process, and outcomes in relation to patient and community needs; and design and test interventions to change processes and systems of care, with the objective of improving quality.
  5. Utilize informatics: Communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making using information technology and current resources.
  6. Practice-Based Learning and Improvement that involves investigation and evaluation of their own patient care, appraisal and assimilation of scientific evidence, and improvements in patient care.
  7. Learn how to integrate behavioral health into daily practice by understanding the behavioral health resources and screeners available when managing patients with behavioral health concerns.
  8. Understand psychopharmacology and therapy options available to children and adolescents struggling with behavioral or mental health concerns.
